A quick update on what's been going on!
This spring, we had some awesome conversations in ccym!
In April, we talked through a series called "Haters." In this series, we discovered that we all have the potential to be a hater and judge others. In a world where people frown upon judging others, it seems like the opposite is happening, and everyone disguises judging others by calling it something else. In other words, judging happens. In all of us. "Haters" helped us to realize that instead of picking up stones to throw at others, we ought to drop those rocks and instead discover the other side of the story that always exists in a conflict.
Personally, this series spoke to me quite a bit. People are so quick to get mad at someone else, or offended and upset by a situation without trying to understand the other side of the story. I've noticed several times in my own life since April where I have thought of this series after experiencing conflict or something that upset me. I have forced myself to assume the best in others and try to give them the benefit of the doubt before I jump to judgment.
This challenge is offered to you as well. Hating happens every single day to all of us. It's the world we live in. But we can be Jesus people by not being so quick to jump to conclusions about someone else and attempt to see the best in them. Talking with them (not arguing!) to get their side of the story. Work to understand instead of to be right. It's difficult, but it leads to relationships not marred by pride.
In May, we explored a series called "Into the Wild." We walked through a bit of Abraham's story together in Genesis and talked about how impressive his faith in God was. Abraham was called into a wild situation. He was asked to leave his own country, promised that he was going to be a father of a great nation, and even asked to sacrifice his own son (don't worry -- it didn't happen -- read Genesis 22 for that crazy story). Abraham, despite how difficult and overwhelming these things were, always said "yes" to God.
God calls us into crazy situations too. He asks us to step out into the wild for Him. He asks us to say "yes" to Him with each step we take. Each step is not always life-changing, but a life of taking "yes steps" certainly will change us. What wild is God calling you into?
This Summer will provide amazing opportunities for us. We are starting with a series called "Inside Out," which talks about the ways in which serving God changes us. But beyond our conversations, we have great things planned for our faith development. This week, many of us are serving in Bible School. Next month, 13 of us are traveling to Guatemala. Later in July, we are going to Impact. We have SO many amazing chances to step out into God's wilderness this summer, and those opportunities will only grow our faith in Him.
Continue following us on Social media, checking for updates on this website, and looking for more ways we are trying to connect with you all! God is taking us in a great direction, and I am excited you all are joining us on His adventure. While our group is in Guatemala, we will be updating this page daily with blogs from our team. We hope you will follow along with us then, and continue praying for us as we prep to serve God and other people there!
Blessings to all of you!
